Interoute launches Virtual Data Centre Disaster Recovery Service

New service includes free data transit between Interoute VDC zones

Interoute, owner operator of Europe's largest cloud services platform, has launched a self-service disaster recovery and backup service as part of its Virtual Data Centre (VDC) offering, built into its pan European network and Data Centre platform. The disaster recovery and local backup capabilities are available to organisations that provision their on-demand computing, needs via Interoute's VDC and are looking to build a resilient architecture across multiple geographically separated locations.

Currently, disaster recovery is being critically overlooked, mainly due to its cost. The old way of thinking was that DR was too expensive, but this has changed with the cloud. The tiers offered within Interoute's self-service disaster recovery and backup service allow IT professionals to quickly build affordable data and application recovery strategies without the need to invest in a separate physical data centre. Contrary to current solutions, enterprises won't even need to pay for transporting data between Interoute's VDC zones, saving on expensive data traffic costs when moving content from one VDC zone to another. Not only this, but its pricing model means that organisations only pay for the storage they use. This can be scaled to reflect demand, resulting in a service that is as cost effective as the public cloud and as secure as a private cloud.

Interoute's Cloud Storage tiers are available via Interoute's online application marketplace, “Interoute CloudStore”. The store's ‘click and play' approach means that organisations can easily replicate data volume enabling automatic back-up and securing of data in an instant. Once selected, every file or document saved in the office is then automatically backed up locally or a replication is sent to another data centre ensuring complete separation. The service is currently available in three locations; London, Amsterdam and Geneva, with plans to expand across its pan-European network in the future – including Berlin in H2 2012.

New fiber-optic submarine cable will use Alcatel-Lucent's technology to boost capacity and reliability of connection internationally to meet growing demand for broadband services.

TUNISIANA and Orange Tunisia today announced the signing of a partnership agreement with Interoute, the owner operator of Europe's largest next generation network, for the commissioning of a submarine cable, called Didon, connecting the city of Kélibia, Tunisia to Interoute's pan European fiber optic network, via its landing station in Mazara del Vallo, Siciliy, Italy. Didon, Tunisia's first private submarine cable will cover nearly 170 km of optical fiber and be a real force for social development and economic growth for the country. The commissioning of the Didon cable is planned for April 2014 and its capacity will reach eight Terabit per second and per operator.

The signing of this agreement is part of the national initiative to support and strengthen the ICT sector and offer Tunisians additional access to international broadband networks and at reduced rates.

The new cable connection will use Alcatel-Lucent's submarine technology and will be capable of handling data speeds of 100 gigabits-per-second, and will help address the fast-growing demand for fixed and mobile broadband services in Tunisia and throughout the region, and increase the reliability of the system dramatically. The submarine cable will provide the highest quality of service to subscribers of the two Tunisian operators by improving the capabilities of their existing international networks and providing better throughput to support continued growth in data traffic. The aim is also to provide more capacity and security for Internet users.

Un nouveau câble fibre optique sous-marin utilisant la technologie Alcatel-Lucent pour augmenter la capacité et la fiabilité des connexions internationales et répondre à la croissance de la demande pour des services large bande

Tunisiana et Orange Tunisie annoncent la signature d'un contrat de partenariat avec Interoute, propriétaire du plus grand réseau de nouvelle génération d'Europe, pour la mise en service d'un câble sous-marin, baptisé « Didon », reliant la ville de Kélibia en Tunisie au réseau paneuropéen de fibre optique d'Interoute via sa station terrestre de Mazzara Del Vallo, en Sicile. Premier câble sous-marin privé de Tunisie, Didon s'étendra sur près de 170 km de fibre optique et constituera un véritable vecteur de développement social et de croissance économique pour le pays. Le câble devrait être opérationnel en avril 2014, sa capacité atteindra les 8 Térabits/seconde pour chacun des opérateurs.

L'opérateur wholesale Phibee Telecom augmente sa présence dans les data centres parisiens et européens, et passe de 35 à plus de 90 data centres avec Interoute

Un investissement important qui permettra de couvrir 90% des acteurs réseaux, télécoms et de services. Objectif : tripler son chiffre d'affaires en 3 ans.

L'opérateur wholesale Phibee Telecom, opérateur d'opérateur partout en France et dans le monde, a choisi l'opérateur Interoute pour augmenter sa présence dans les data centres parisiens et européens.

Possédant déjà un réseau étendu homogène avec une présence dans toutes les régions de France, mais aussi à l'étranger, Phibee Telecom a décidé d'augmenter la capacité de son réseau pour répondre à l'augmentation des débits et des besoins de ses clients, et par la même occasion, ses points de présence pour couvrir plus d'acteurs du marché. Après étude des dossiers de cinq prestataires, deux ont été retenus pour la cohérence de leur architecture et de leurs coûts par rapport aux besoins de présence de Phibee Telecom. Interoute a fait la différence par la densité de sa couverture européenne, notamment en Espagne, pays non couvert par le concurrent.

« Nous avons choisi Interoute car cet opérateur possède sa propre fibre. Nous éliminons ainsi le nombre d'intermédiaires pour garantir notre qualité de service et proposer une meilleure réactivité, » explique Jérôme Schevingt, Directeur Technique de Phibee Telecom. « De même, nous avons choisi de travailler en direct avec les hébergeurs et, par ce projet, nous avons conclu des partenariats avec les principaux hébergeurs européens portant sur plus de 40 espaces privatifs. »

Auparavant connecté à 35 data centres européens, Phibee Telecom augmente sa présence à plus de 90 data centres, ce qui lui permet de passer sa couverture du marché de 15% d'opérateurs à 90%. Un investissement lourd qui a nécessité le changement et l'ajout de plus d'une centaine d'équipements de cœur de réseau chez l'opérateur wholesale et qui a nécessité d'importantes interventions humaines sur les liaisons, les routeurs et les data centres eux-mêmes. Cependant, ce projet lui permet de multiplier les capacités et de faire des économies d'échelle, faisant chuter le prix du Gigabit. Au final, Phibee Telecom estime que la nouvelle infrastructure lui coûte seulement 20% plus cher que l'existant, 20% déjà financés par les précommandes émanant de clients intéressés par les nouvelles interconnexions inter data centres. A terme, Phibee Telecom envisage de tripler son chiffre d'affaires en trois ans.

Christophe Lancrey-Javal, Directeur Service Provider France, attachait beaucoup d'importance à ce projet : « Phibee Telecom est client depuis 2007, et il est très important pour nous d'accompagner le développement de nos clients »

Ce projet s'inscrit parfaitement dans le cœur de cible d'Interoute du fait du périmètre paneuropéen du besoin, à savoir la mise en place d'anneaux fibres noires dans les principales capitales européennes et 18 liaisons 10 Gb longueur d'onde lui permettant de les interconnecter. Cette extension n'est qu'une première étape pour Phibee Telecom qui a déjà prévu une phase 2 pour s'étendre vers les pays de l'Est (Roumanie, Prague, Russie) et augmenter sa présence dans tous les grands data centres d'Europe (Londres, Manchester, Amsterdam, Francfort et Madrid). Une phase 3 concerne les Etats-Unis.

Dialight Announces Advanced Lighting Controls for its LED Fixture Portfolio for Industrial and Hazardous Locations

Next generation integrated LED lighting controls available in both wireless and wired configurations improve total cost of ownership

Dialight (LSE: DIA.L), the innovative global leader in LED lighting technology, today announced the introduction of integrated controls for its industry leading LED lighting fixture portfolio for use in the world's most demanding applications. The patent-pending, smart grid compatible control package is available in variety of communications protocols. These include powerline communications (PLC), wireless (industry standard Zigbee) or DALI platforms and can be manually configured or accessed utilizing a touch screen wall controller via mobile devices such as iPhone, iPad, or Android, or from a remote network computer.
